VPN review

Why Use A VPN?

  • Complete anonymity when using the internet. No one will know what you are looking at or what you are doing.
  • You can steam video from Popcorn Time, Movie Box, NETFLIX, HBO NOW, XBMC, Kodi, BBC iView, etc. without restriction and anonymously.
  • You can download P2P Torrents (on the best VPN's) without restriction and anonymously.
  • State of the art encryption so all of your personal information, chats, emails, bank details, photos, sensitive business documents etc. are secure from theft over Wi-Fi networks.
  • You can access blocked sites like Facebook and Twitter from countries where they have censored sites, schools, universities etc.
  • You can bypass blocked sites. Eg. Many ISP’s in the UK block access to all porn sites, by using a VPN Service you can access all of these sites freely and without your ISP knowing anything.
  • Most will run on all devices including PC, MAC, Linux, iPhone’s, Android’s and tablets and some you can even install on a special Wi-Fi router so your whole house is protected all of the time.

If you don’t want a flashy toy but are just after a good all round VPN with an extremely simple user interface that has excellent speed and security then Overplay is an excellent option.

The speed tests that were performed on Overplay had superb results across the board that make activities like streaming a breeze. As a added bonus you also get a Smart DNS with a VPN subscription that lets you unlock overseas content without the use of a VPN (a VPN will do the same thing) if you are don’t need the encryption and anonymity.

3. PureVPN

PureVPN offers a great VPN Service with a good looking user interface. PureVPN is operated out of Hong Kong (China) an has been around since 2006. Their VPN software has a very user friendly design and offers a lot of bonus features if needed.

The speed tests where a little slower than the other five VPN’s listed on this site but they do offer a large selection of servers to choose from in their extensive network. One thing to note is in their privacy policy they do have quite a long section about logs they keep so if anonymity is your number one concern then you may want to have a good read before choosing this one, if you don’t care much for anonymity then this is a great option.

What I Like:
+ Smart DNS Included.
+ 5 Simultaneous Connections.
+ Can Use To Stream Netflix, HULU, BBC, iPlayer, XBMC, Spotify, Pandora.
+ Great User Interface.
+ Lots Of Features.

- They Keep Extensive Logs.
- Performed Slower Than The Others.
- Only a 3 Days Guarantee.

4. Private Internet Access

Private Internet Access have been around for a while now and their main strength is their speed. If you use their normal client then the speeds are very quick although it is not utilizing the OpenVPN protocol so your security and anonymity is at risk. If you want to use the OpenVPN client then you have to download, configure and use a separate opensource VPN client called Open VPN. This is a bit of a pain in the ass and you then have to also install and configure all of the locations and then insert your username and password each time you connect.

After you have it all up and running then it is ok to use but your selection of countries to connect to are a little limited with only 10 countries in their network and there are no servers in Australia at all. The price is quite cheap but you get what you pay for. If you are not interested in connecting to many different locations, are tech savvy and have the time and patience for configuration then this is a good option.

What I Like:
+ Fast Speeds.
+ Can Use To Stream Netflix, HULU, BBC, iPlayer, XBMC, Spotify, Pandora.
+ 7 Day Guarantee.

What I Don't Like:
- Use Opensource VPN Client.
- Lengthy Installations and Configuration Process.
- Not For The Non Tech Savvy.
- Have To Enter Password Often.
- Limited Country Selection.

5. IronSocket

IronSocket VPN is a lesser known VPN provider but it does offer a good service with great speed across its network in 36 different countries. It performed very well in the speed tests except when connecting to Australia and they offer a 7 day money back guarantee. If you are tech savvy then this is a good option to consider for VPN Software.

I will say this though, IronSocket is not really for anyone who is not good with computers as it is not as user friendly as the others. IronSocket utilizes the open source VPN client so you have to go in and install all the different server locations manually one by one which is annoying and also have to enter your username and password every time you connect to a VPN server which is a bit of a pain.

What I Like:
+ Shared IP Addresses.
+ Accepts Bitcoin As Payment.

Things you should know.

We haven’t tested every single VPN product on the market because there are hundreds of them. What we did was establish affiliate relationships with a number of what we think are leading VPN services on the market for private use. We then analysed those products by performing a series of objective tests, assessed our subjective personal user experience, and reported our findings to help you make an informed decision to choose the right VPN service for you. Of course, there are other VPN products out there and you should feel free to shop around outside this site. However, on this site, all testing and findings were performed by a qualified member of our staff with a minimum of a university bachelor degree in computer science and over 10 years of experience in software development. Some of the VPN software used for testing was given free for testing purposes. Most were actually purchased. We think you will struggle to find another website out there which actually downloads and tests the different VPN software using a qualified professional.

Please be aware that some of the criteria for testing are based on objective raw data such as speed test results, while other testing criteria are based on subjective personal experience and interaction with the VPN software. Due to this, our findings may not reflect your personal view. As there is a money back guarantee after a certain number of days on all of the VPN products listed on this site you should make the most of this time and perform your own testing to see if a particular product caters to your needs. If you would like to know more on how we came to our findings then please click here.

Just to be clear, this website earns commissions from all VPN companies on this site for the customers that we refer to them and which convert into sales. If you would like to know more about how this site operates then please click here.
