The Foundation

The Alameda County Health Care Foundation (ACHCF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation whose mission is to raise funds and generate community support for the Alameda County Medical Center (ACMC). Headquartered in Oakland, California, ACMC is one of the major hospital systems in the Bay Area, with 475 licensed beds on three campuses: 236 at Highland Hospital, 159 at Fairmont Hospital, and 80 at John George Psychiatric Pavilion. ACMC also serves Alameda County with three freestanding ambulatory care centers in addition to outpatient clinics at Highland Hospital. In addition, ACMC is a teaching facility affiliated with the University of California, and is the designated Trauma Center for Northern Alameda County. Working in and for ACMC, the Foundation currently has a diverse staff of 3.5 FTE and a 15-member Board of Directors, with current assets of approximately $2 million.

Job Description

Under the direction of the Executive Director, and following standard procedures, the Grants Development Officer/Grantwriter is responsible for supporting the development and acquisition of grants for the program priorities and capital needs of Alameda County Medical Center. This is a part-time position (18-24 hrs/week.)

Major Responsibilities:

• Develops and supports foundation and corporate grant writing and reporting, tailoring proposal to fit the submission requirements.
• Prepares and submits complete applications with required attachments.
• Coordinates research, identifies funding opportunities, obtains guidelines, and generates reports.
• Maintains accurate hard copy and electronic data files on all grants and proposals.
• Functions as a team leader in determining grantwriting, funding reporting, and maintenance schedules; and communicates this information in a timely manner with Executive Director and other development staff as required.
• Stays abreast of knowledge about issues related to health care initiatives.
• Provides editing and supports fundraising appeal writing and newsletter and publications preparation.

Ideal Qualifications/Experience

• Education: Baccalaureate degree, master’s degree a plus.
• Experience:
  • Minimum 3-5 years grantwriting and grants management in a nonprofit setting.
  • Experience with researching funding sources
  • Experience with budget preparation
  • Experience with The Raiser’s Edge (preferred), or other fundraising software
  • Experience with Microsoft Office
• Required skills:
  • Strong, clear verbal and oral communication skills
  • Detail-oriented mindset
  • Strong time-management skills
  • Ability to work on multiple projects at one time
  • Willingness to accept constructive support and criticism

Compensation

Salary will be commensurate with the highest levels of experience.
