"Serving Alameda County Medical Center" January/February 2008

Dear Valued Donor,

Cherlyn SpencerHappy New Year!

This year promises to be the best ever for the Foundation! We are excited about what is on the horizon in 2008. We have ambitious projects and activities set before us that we plan to accomplish with the help of our donors and friends of the Foundation.

We’re hitting the ground running in 2008. Here is a list of activities and programs we’re working on.

~ Angiography Suite Acquisition Campaign 2008: In October, we initiated the first phase (the “quiet phase”) of a major equipment acquisition campaign. Our year-end effort phase is wrapping up and we are preparing to launch a community phase that will inform civic, business, and faith-based organizations about both the campaign and other positive activities at ACMC. Of course, this all goes hand-in-hand with our continuing efforts of involving foundations and corporations in our efforts. Our overall goal is $2.6 million.

~ The 18th Annual Gala Benefit, our black-tie optional event is scheduled for Saturday, June 7, 2008, at the beautiful Rotunda building. Our financial goal is $200,000.

~ The 13th Annual Golf Classic will be held on September 22, 2008, at Sequoyah Country Club.

We are eager to talk to the community. If you have any contacts with large civic organizations which may be interested in supporting any one of our projects, please let us know.

Our goal is to engage donors in ways they feel are meaningful in collective efforts to support the foundation’s mission.

Until next time ... best regards,

Cherlyn L. Spencer, MSW
Executive Director

Cancer Navigator Families Celebrate Christmas

Cancer Navigator Christmas Party
On Saturday, December 8, 2007, over 300 patients and their families danced and enjoyed music of “Nostalgia” and food catered by “Cocina de Poblano” at the 14th Annual Alameda County Medical Center/Cancer Navigator Program Holiday Party.

Specifically organized for cancer patients and their families, the special Christmas event was held at the Greek Orthodox Church in Castro Valley, CA.

The event included activities for children; and, of course, “Santa” was onsite bearing gifts.

Highland Auxiliary

This month the Foundation recognizes in its Donor Profile the Highland Hospital Auxiliary. Despite its official name, the Auxiliary raises funds for projects that benefit patients throughout the entire Alameda County Medical Center. This group of dedicated volunteers, consisting primarily of retired staff of the Medical Center, has been in existence since 1993. In these 15 years, the Auxiliary has raised many thousands of dollars for projects.

You can contact Ms. Kaida for more information on how to join by calling (925) 935-3782.

Youth Violence Prevention Program Funded

Award PresentedThis generous grant from Western Digital illustrates the high tech firm’s commitment to helping make a difference among at-risk youth in our community.

Last month, ACMC and ACHCF representatives were invited to tour the Western Digital Fremont facility.

While onsite, ACMC Nic Bekeart, YVPP Manager, presented an overview of the Youth Violence Prevention Program and received a gracious $10,000 contribution to support the program.

Western Digital is committed to the youth of the community. Their community-giving program staff have seen first-hand what programs like ours can accomplish and is very excited about our program’s success rate. Additionally, Western Digital has mentor and scholarship programs for youth who are interested in the field of digital equipment.
