"Serving Alameda County Medical Center" Summer 2007

Dear Friend,

Did You Know You Can Utilize Your IRA in 2007 to make significant, tax-wise contributions to your favorite charity?

For tax year 2007 donors to the Alameda County Health Care Foundation who are 70 years and older are eligible to contribute up to $100,000 from their IRA plan and have the amount count toward your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD). Although the funds are not tax deductible, the RMD will not be included in your taxable income. The funds must move directly from your IRA to the Foundation. Your plan administrator can assist you with this transfer process. After you reach your RMD you can continue to donate funds from your IRA in the same manner although these funds will not count toward your RMD.

12th Annual Golf Classic

Monday, September 24, 2007
12:30 PM at Sequoyah Country Club
4550 Heafey Road, Oakland, CA

Make plans now to participate in one of the Alameda County Health Care Foundation’s largest events of the year, the Golf Classic on Monday, September 24. The proceeds from this event enable the Foundation to help support the program and equipment needs of the Alameda County Medical Center.

This year it will be held at the exclusive Sequoyah Country Club in the Oakland Hills. Sequoyah is one of the most challenging and exclusive golf links in the Bay Area and only available to us on this one day through a very special arrangement. So take this opportunity to play and socialize.

If you don’t golf, you can still participate by coming for dinner. The Sequoyah Country Club offers excellent food in elegant surroundings. This, too, is a unique opportunity for only $100 per person for you and your friends to dine in a beautiful private country club while supporting a good cause.

For more information on the event, visit our website.

Another way you can participate as an individual or as a work unit is to purchase a Hole Flag with a custom message that will be presented to you at the conclusion of the Golf Classic. Details are on our website.

Act soon, as the foursomes and dinner reservations are filling up fast!

Golf Sponsorships Available

This year, in addition to having Corporate Sponsorships, Foursomes, and Tee Sponsorships, special Hole Flag Sponsorships are available at the Foundation Golf Classic for only $500 each.

These commemorative flags make a wonderful memento for you or a great gift for a golfing buddy. At the end of the tournament the 11” x 14” flag is yours as a keepsake.

Deadline for reserving a Hole Flag and submitting text and a logo is Friday, September 14, 2007. Call 510.535.7424 for information about the tournament and ways you can participate.

Fund-A-Need Raises Money for Portable Ultrasound in ICU

A new feature of this year’s Gala Auction was “Fund-A-Need” in which guests were offered the opportunity to make a “bid” to support the purchase of a piece of needed equipment, a portable ultrasound machine for the ICU. A total of $11,235 was raised through the Gala and donations from those unable to attend the Gala but still wishing to participate. The Foundation has made up the difference and is happy to announce that we are purchasing this piece of important equipment needed to serve our patients in the Intensive Care Unit.

We thank you for your help and are grateful to be a part of such a generous community of supporters. Delivery date will be announced.

Ultrasound has been described as “the stethoscope of the 21st century.” This portable ultrasound device will assist physicians in localizing fluid collection in the chest and abdomen, monitoring heart function and blood flow, and detecting blood clots as well as help in the evaluation of collapsed lungs. It will also save crucial time in determining a course of treatment when time is a critical factor in the ICU.
