Chaplaincy Services Expanding

Fairmont ChapelChaplain Kay Landers reports that this is a time of wonderful expansion for the chaplaincy services of ACMC. Last year, approximately 91,000 patients were either hospitalized at Highland, John George, Fairmont or received their treatment in the emergency room or through trauma care. With just one staff chaplain and limited support from a handful of faithful volunteers, only six percent (6%) of those patients were seen by chaplains.

The year 2007 will see the commencement of a multi-faith chaplaincy training and supervision program under the direction of the Rev. Bob Walter. Chaplain Walter served for 16 years with Sojourn Chaplaincy at San Francisco General Hospital where he directed their educational program. Following his recent resignation, he graciously accepted an invitation to establish a program here in Alameda County. Seminary students from many faith traditions, and volunteers from community churches, will be under the supervision of Chaplain Bob and their presence will multiple the ability of the chaplaincy services to be present for all who wish spiritual care and support within their own faith traditions.
