The Foundation Announces Funds Available for Outreach Services in Nine Bay Area Counties

Susan F. Komen Foundation - $486,000 for Cancer Services

In an effort to increase the number of uninsured women receiving screening mammograms in the nine Bay Area counties (Sonoma, Napa, West Solano, Marin, San Francisco, Alameda, Contra Costa, San Mateo, and Santa Clara), the San Francisco Bay Area Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation has created a special Screening Fund with approximately $486,000 available. This project will be under the direction of Bonnie Wheatley, EdD, MPH, with the Cancer Detection Program: Every Woman Counts at the Alameda County Medical Center.

The Alameda County Health Care Foundation is acting as fiscal agent for the Screening Fund and will reimburse providers for an initial office visit and/or screening mammogram. For further information, please contact Bonnie Wheatley.

Bonnie Wheatley is the Program Administrator of the Bay Area Breast and Cervical Health Collaborative Program at Alameda County Medical Center.

Ms. Wheatley has more than 15 years of commitment and service as a breast cancer advocate for African-American women and other women of color and has spoken nationally and internationally on the health issues facing underserved women.
