In 1990, a group of concerned citizens established a vehicle to secure and provide financial and material support for Highland General Hospital, now known as Alameda County Medical Center—Highland Campus. These citizens recognized that as State and Federal funds continued to shrink and patient needs continued to grow, the community would have to become involved in supporting the continuation of quality health care for Alameda County Medical Center’s patients.

The Foundation is a non-profit entity registered as a 501(c)(3) organization with the State of California. Donations to it are tax-deductible. Our sole purpose is to provide support for the Alameda County Medical Center and its critically important programs. Funding is obtained through grants, major gifts, annual giving, special events, employee giving, donor advisory funds, and memorial funds.

In June of 2004, the Foundation completed a $5.3 million capital campaign to provide equipment and furnishings for the Koret Foundation Critical Care and Clinical Center at the Highland Hospital Campus. The Foundation surpassed its original goal of $5 million, and credits the achievement in large part to the support of volunteers, employees, individual, and corporate donors; and foundation, governmental, and community partners—all working together in pursuit of community health.

The Foundation’s goal is to help continue this viable institution by soliciting funds from individuals, foundations, corporations, and special fund raising activities.
