Nomination Criteria
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
In 1993 the Alameda County Board of Supervisors, the Alameda
County Health Care Foundation, and the Alameda County
Commission on the Status of Women established a permanent
Women's Hall of Fame. The purpose of the Women's Hall
of Fame is to recognize outstanding women for their achievements
and contributions to the overall well being of our county
and its citizens.

NOMINATION CATEGORIES
Business and Professions: Women promoting
and creating economic development opportunities for the advancement of
women in the work world.
Community Service: Women volunteering
to improve the overall quality of their community.
Culture and Art: Women enhancing and
encouraging individual creativity in the performing, visual and media
arts.
Education: Women promoting success
in our public education system.
Environment: Women supporting and
advocating the preservation of our environment.
Health: Women improving access to
health care services and medical advancement for women.
Justice: Women reforming and expanding
legal advocacy in our justice system.
Science: Women pioneering scientific
research and advancement in technology.
Sports and Athletics: Women exhibiting
leadership in sports and athletics.
Youth: Senior high
school (12th grade) female students who have demonstrated
leadership and made a difference in their community.
GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS
The inductee is:
- Established in her career and/or volunteerism with significant achievements
that have benefited the county.
- Confident and mature in her achievements; and accepts her personal
power and uses it in responsible creative ways.
- Successful in overcoming personal and/or professional obstacles.
- A role model for youth, women, and men in Alameda County who are striving
to achieve their own successes.
GENERAL RULES
- The Women's Hall of Fame is open to women of all
ages, including youth, who live or work in Alameda County
regardless of race, color, national origin, physical
challenge, and religious or political affiliation, except
current members of the Board of Supervisors, the Alameda
County Health Care Foundation, the Commission on the
Status of Women, elected officials, and the Women's
Hall of Fame Planning Committee.
- Awards may be posthumous.
- More than one nomination may be submitted.
- The Selection Panel will be comprised of citizens of Alameda County.
- All nominees will be notified before the Awards Reception, tentatively
scheduled the first Saturday in March.
- All applications postmarked by 12/19/2005 will be
accepted.
- Prior nominations may be resubmitted.
- Nominations become the property of the Alameda County Commission
on the Status of Women.
The Alameda County Women's Hall of Fame is endorsed by
the Alameda County Board of Supervisors.

The Alameda County Health Care Foundation is a non-profit
501(c)(3) organization serving the medically underserved, indigent, and
all Alameda County residents, with special emphasis on Alameda County
Medical Center (ACMC) patients. ACMC is comprised of Highland General
Hospital; Fairmont Hospital, John George Psychiatric Pavilion, and the
five County Ambulatory Care Clinics.
