JAPANESE WOOD BLOCK PRINT BY SHOTEI, CA. 1930’S
Own this Japanese woodblock print by Takahashi Shotei called “Pagoda”. Born in 1871 in Japan, Shotei designed magnificent numbers of prints, more than any other shin hanga artist. Shin Hanga, which literally means, “new prints” was an art movement for a new style of Japanese prints from 1910 to 1960 inspired by European Impressionism. The movement integrated Western elements without giving up the old values of Japanese, traditional woodblock prints. The artist Shotei died in 1945.
